Born in the Bronx to parents of Danish descent, Scarlett is one of five children and is a twin to her brother, Hunter. Her mother is a producer and her father was a screenwriter and director. Scarlett began auditioning for acting jobs while attending the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan and made her film debut in North (1994) at the age of 10. Acclaimed roles in Robert Redford’s The Horse Whisperer (1998) (

Scarlett filmed The Black Dahlia (2006) (Hilary Swank, Rachel Miner) with then-boyfriend Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), who she dated until 2007 when their busy schedules got in the way of their relationship. Despite being named Esquire’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2001, Scarlett denied rumors of dating What Goes Around Comes Around video co-star Justin Timberlake and remained single until Spring of 2007 when she began dating actor Ryan Reynolds. In May of 2008, she confirmed her engagement to Ryan Reynolds. They were married in September 2008.
Scarlett has also done extensive modeling, doing ad campaigns for Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein perfume, L’Oreal, and Reebok. She also is working on launching her singing career. Her first album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, which included cover versions of Tom Waits songs was released in 2008. Her second album, Break Up, with Pete Yorn was released in September 2009.
